You may be tired, frustrated, resentful, apathetic, and full of anxiety about your future, but know that God is El Roi (EL row-EE) — The God Who Sees Me (Genesis 16:13).

God is real in both senses: He’s real in that He exists and He’s real in that He knows what it is and what it ain’t. He knows exactly how you feel, He knows the struggles of life, and He knows it ain’t easy. He sees all that you are and all that you will become. Trust that He sees exactly what’s necessary to have you grow into the person you want to become. Growth doesn’t happen without pain. I don’t like it but that’s how it is.

It’s understandable for us to worry about what’s coming next. Lately, I’ve been worrying about how everything is gonna work out by the end of the week. But God never worries about our future because He’s already there. He is lovingly pulling us through with His provision and making us new in this present moment with His grace.

James says that God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble (4:6b). So if we say in our hearts and try to portray to God that we don’t have a problem to be fixed or that we don’t have a need to be fulfilled or that we don’t have a 14-year-old wound that still needs to be healed, then He’ll let us continue to try to handle everything by ourselves.
